Makati City – The final game of the PAFL season 3 has finally come. It seems like it was a rematch from last year’s championship as the Cavemen faced the still undefeated defending champs.

The Cavemen started on their 30-yard line. What was supposed to be a run play became a penalty as a false start violation was called against the offense. After an incomplete pass, the Wolves called for a timeout. The Cavemen were on their 2nd and 15 and were unable to gain yards as their next play was another incomplete pass –  they called a timeout afterward. Quarterback Mike Hoese ran the ball with a 4-yard gain before he was tackled outside by linebacker Justin Gunnacao. They decided to punt the ball and the Wolves started on their 20-yard line.

The ball was quickly passed to wide receiver Miguel De la Peña with a 1-yard gain before he was stopped by linebacker James Dimagiba with an assist from defensive lineman John Artman Degoma. The next play was a pitch to running back Joshua Gayta with an outside run and a 2-yard gain. A facemask violation was called against the defense which resulted in a 5-yard penalty. The ball was handed off to running back David Jumola who got the first down before being stopped by the defense. They went for another run by Jumola but he was stopped at the line of scrimmage by Degoma with an assist from Dimagiba. The ball was then passed to Gayta who gained about 3 yards. The Wolves decided to punt the ball after an incomplete pass.

The Cavemen started on their 30-yard line. The first play was a pitch to running back Edlen Hernandez with a 9-yard gain before he was stopped by defensive back Dags Mambuay. Another run by Hernandez got them a first down with a 4-yard gain. The pass was incomplete but a penalty was called against the defense for roughing the passer which resulted in a 15-yard penalty and an automatic first down. The ball was pitched again to Hernandez with a 3-yard run before he was stopped by defensive back Alden Garcia. The next pass was incomplete so the offense decided to do another run play with Hernandez who gained a yard before being stopped by linebacker Larry Favorito assisted by defensive back Khalil Tan. The ball was caught by wide receiver Nicholas Garcia at the red zone but was tackled out of bounds by Mambuay before he could make the touchdown. The ball was quickly passed to Hernandez who was stopped by Mambuay after a 1-yard gain. There was another handoff to Hernandez but was immediately stopped at the line of scrimmage by linebacker Kim Luy. However, offensive lineman Leo Antazo was down on the field and was escorted out shortly after. The Cavemen scored their first touchdown of the night with a pass to receiver RJ Laurel at the end zone. They didn’t score the extra point which gave them a 6-point lead in the game.

The Wolves started midfield with a pitch to Graves and a 5-yard gain. A quick pass to Gayta didn’t gain yards as he was tackled at the line of scrimmage by Dimagiba who was assisted by defensive back Jerome Intia. The ball was pitched to Graves who got a first down and a 4-yard gain. The offense got another first down after a quick pass to wide receiver Ivan Klaric. After an incomplete pass, the ball was caught by tight end Martin Antonio half a yard short from another first down with a tackle from linebacker Iñigo Pulido. The defense called a timeout shortly after the play. The ball was handed off to Graves, fumbled, and recovered again by the Wolves for a first down. It was 1st and goal for the pack when the ball was caught by Klaric at the end zone for their first touchdown of the night. They scored their extra point which gave them a 1-point lead in the game [7-6].

There was a confusion with the Cavemen returning team as no one touched the ball after the kick. The Wolves took the ball for another possession. They started on the Cavemen’s 20-yards. After an incomplete pass, Klaric got another first down. The next play was another incomplete pass. The ball was handed off to Jumola who was tackled by defensive lineman Marco Bangit at the line of scrimmage. Quarterback Luke Zetazate attempted a sneak but was pushed back 5-yards before he was tackled by defensive back Maximo Carlos. They decided to go for a field goal that was good. However, a violation was called against the defense for roughing the kicker which meant a 15-yard penalty and an automatic first down – 1st and goal for the Wolves. After an incomplete pass, the ball was handed off to Jumola who scored a touch down with a run up the middle. The extra point was good which left the score at 14-6.

The Cavemen started on their 11-yard line. The ball was handed off to Hernandez who gained 30-yards before he was tackled by defensive back Jerome Bautista. the offense called for a timeout shortly after. The ball was passed to Garcia who got to the red zone before being pushed out of bounds. The ball was then pitched to Hernandez but was immediately tackled by Tan as he got the ball. This resulted in a 9-yard loss. However, the Cavemen scored another touchdown with a pass to Garcia at the end zone. They secured the extra 2-points with another pass to Garcia. The score was tied at 14.

The Wolves started on their 25-yards. The ball was quickly passed to Klaric with a 7-yard gain before he was stopped by defensive back Victor De Guia assisted by Hernandez. Graves ran the ball for a first down. The ball was almost intercepted but was incomplete. There was a pass Graves but was tackled on the line of scrimmage. The offense called for a timeout.  An offsides violation was called against the defense which meant a 5-yard penalty an repeat of down. Another violation was called against the defense for pass interference on Klaric. This was a 15-yard penalty and an automatic first down. The ball was handed off to Graves but he was tackled a yard before the line of scrimmage. The next play was a bad snap that was recovered by the Wolves with no gain. The ball was passed to Graves but he was a yard short on the first down. Possession was turned over to the Cavemen after an incomplete pass.

The Cavemen started on their 30-yard line. The ball was quickly passed to Hernandez who was stopped by Tan with an assist from defensive lineman Ben Affaine after a 3-yard gain. After an incomplete pass, the ball was pitched back to Hernandez again who gained another 3 yards before he was taken down by linebacker Darwin Gonzales. The Cavemen punted the ball and the Wolves started on their 40.

The ball was quickly passed to Klaric who ran the ball 15-yards and got the first down before he was taken down by defensive lineman JP Suarez. After an incomplete pass, the ball was caught by Antonio who got another first down before he was stopped by defensive lineman Alden Monzon with an assist from linebacker Gian Mathay. Klaric caught the ball at the red zone for another first down with another stop by Mathay. The Wolves called a timeout after. The game resumed with only 9 seconds left in the first half. The pack was unable to complete a pass and opted for a field goal with only 3 seconds left in the first half. They got the score that put them in a 3 point lead (17-14).

There was a 5-yard penalty on the Wolves for blocking from the back so they started on their 10-yard line.  Gayta ran the ball about 9-yards before he was stopped. The ball was handed off to Jumola with a 2-yard gain and a first down who was stopped by Mathay. The next play was an incomplete pass followed by a false start on the offense. Klaric caught the ball and was already a few yards short on the first before he was pushed out of bounds by Dimagiba. They got another first down with a hand-off to Jumola. The ball was passed to De la Peña who got the first down before he was taken down by linebacker Wil Yeh. The next pass was to receiver Walid Mo who also got a first down. De la Peña scored a touchdown with a reception at the end zone. They score their extra point and the score was at 24-14.

The Cavemen started on their 35-yard line. The ball was handed off to Hernandez for a 3-yard gain. It was then passed to receiver Pereme Alina for another 3-yard gain and was stopped by defensive back Jerome Bautista. They decided to run the ball but was stopped by the defensive line. They called a timeout before making their next play. The ball was passed to Alina for a first down. Defensive lineman Richard Artista sacked Hoese which resulted in a 10-yard loss. Alina got the ball but as he was tackled, it was swiped and recovered by Garcia [Wolves] who made it to the red zone before he was stopped. The ball was turned over to the Wolves and they were 1st and goal.

A medical timeout was called as one of the Cavemen players was down on the field. The ball was handed off to Graves but the ball was loose and he was down before he could get more yards; it was a loss of about 3 yards. Another Cavemen player was down on the field. As the game resumed, the ball was caught by De la Peña a few inches short from the touchdown. The next play was another run by Graves but was a loss of a few inches back. The final play was a quarterback sneak by Zetazate for a touchdown. The extra point was good and the score was 31-14.

 

The Cavemen started on their 29-yard line with 2:50 left in the 3rd quarter. After an incomplete pass, the ball was caught by Hernandez with a 3-yard gain and the stop was made by Bautista assisted by linebacker Francis Bataclan. The next two plays were incomplete passes which meant a turnover on downs.

The ball was handed off to Jumola for a 3 yard gain. Another medical timeout was called by the referees. A pass was intercepted by defensive back Victor De Guia at the end zone; ball possession was now with the Cavemen.

The Cavemen called for a timeout before beginning their first play; the remaining time in the 3rd quarter was only 0:30. The ball was passed to Garcia 3 yards from the line of scrimmage but did not gain more as he was immediately tackled by Bautista. After two incomplete passes, Hoese [quarterback] got a first down with an outside run. However, there was a fumble on the next play and the recovery was made by the Wolves.

The ball was handed off to Graves who gained 7 yards before he was taken down by Intia. It was then passed to De la Peña who was short from the red zone but a holding violation was called against the offense which nullified the gain. The next play was another quick pass to De la Peña. He made it to the red zone this time but was seen down on the field. As the game resumed, the pass was intercepted by Inita at the end zone.

The Cavemen started with a pass play and a gain of 3 yards. The ball was handed off to Yeh who got to the first down and more before he was stopped by Wolves defense. But a penalty was called against the offense for unsportsmanlike conduct which meant a 15-yard penalty. As the offense was making a play, linebacker Kim Luy swiped the ball and ran all the way to the end zone for a touchdown. The pack decided to go for 2-points but was unsuccessful. The score was at 37-14. Players from both teams were down on the field.

The Cavemen started on their 20. Before they could complete a play, Artista got to Hoese and sacked him for a 10-yard loss. They completed a pass for a first down when a violation was called against the defense for roughing the passer which meant a 15-yard penalty. There was 7:46 left in the game at this point. After 2 incomplete passes, a false start violation was called against the offense. They got a first down with a pass to Hernandez. After an incomplete pass, they went for a run by Hernandez but was immediately tackled by linebacker Marco Cordova at the line of scrimmage. They got a 1st and goal with a pass to Laurel before he was pushed out of bounds. They completed a pass but an offsides violation was called against the defense. The ball was fumbled into the backfield but was still recovered by the Cavemen. The scored another touchdown with a pass to Hernandez at the end zone. The 2-point conversion was no good so the score was 37-20.

The Wolves recovered the kick midfield but was given an extra 15-yards for a late hit call against the Cavemen. The ball was handed off to Graves with a gain of  3-yards before he was pushed out of bounds by defensive back King Cunanan. The offense gained a total of 6-yards with 2 consecutive runs by Graves. The offense was penalized for a false start violation. The ball was turned over after an incomplete pass.

The game clock was at 1:30 and the Cavemen called a timeout. The game resumed with confusion on the field as the Wolves were not ready yet for the play. The referees called it as good and even got a first down. Artista sacked Hoese again right after the snap for a 6-yard loss. The ball was handed off again to Hernandez and got the first down with a run in the middle; he was stopped by Mambuay. The Cavemen used up their last timeout with 1:07 left in the game. After an incomplete pass, the ball was passed to Hernandez for a 15-yard gain and was stopped by Klaric. There was only 0:15 left in the game when the ball was intercepted by Bautista.

The game ended with a score of 37-20.
