Holding similar records, the race for playoff positions could not come at a more important time.

The PAFL’s third regular season has reached its penultimate week that may determine the remaining postseason seats when the Olongapo Warriors tangle with the Rebels at 4:00PM while the Datu look to make up for the disappointing default loss when they take on the Juggernauts in the 7:00PM main game today at the Circuit Makati Blue Pitch.

The Rebels, standing at 0-3, face a tough challenge from the Warriors but Pocholo Ricafort believes they can go toe-to-toe with today’s adversaries.

“We’re ready. I’m confident with the adjustments we’ve made. They play good defense. We’ve seen [how they play]. Our receivers are pretty agile enough to handle their secondary (cornerbacks and safeties),” Ricafort said.

A crucial factor to determine the outcome is how their defense holds the fort, something that Ricafort pointed out why they manage to keep up in last week’s game against the Juggernauts.

“Our defense did a lot better in our last game, stepping up at the half to give the Juggernauts a harder time. That change gave us a boost. We’re more excited to take that momentum to today’s game,” Ricafort said.

Aside from another playoff appearance, the Warriors are looking to improve from where they were last season, being in a 1-3 win-loss status. Expect them to lay it all out on the field as what they have done in the past games. Unfortunately, they could not be reached for comments, as of press time.

Meanwhile, the Datu (1-2) forfeited their Week 5 outing against the Cavemen because of the lack of players present due to personal commitments.

Quarterback Wewe Alvero said the team remains unfazed but recognize the setback the forfeit brought to the team’s chances. Still, they are determined to get back to prime form and show the league they mean business.

“Coming from a loss, we [definitely] need to bounce back. We’ll make sure all the players are present and ready for battle,” Alvero said.

With the Juggernauts (1-3) coming off a win in Week 5, the team is more excited than ever to take on the blue turf for some gridiron action.

Coach Miguel Suaco said they had a good practice and maximized the time to work on their game, in spite of players having other commitments.

“Attendance at practice was low [in number] so our growth as a team is capped. We’re under pressure to do really well to make the playoffs but the squad has been training as if they’re playing in the championships,” Suaco said.
