Makati City – It has been known to the football community that the Wolves and Cavemen have been rivals for the championship ever since. Both teams were undefeated for the regular season games and were scheduled to face each other right before the playoffs. Fans from both teams came and watch as they battled it out to show dominance over the other.

, PAFL Game Recap, Nov. 3, 2018: Wolves Defeat Cavemen; Still Undefeated And First Seed

The kick-off started with the Wolves as the receiving team; it was an on-side kick that went out of bounds at the 40-yard line. The ball was immediately passed to running back David Jumola but was tackled by linebacker Wil Yeh and defensive lineman JP Suarez at the line of scrimmage. After 2 incomplete passes, the Wolves decided to go for their first punt of the season. They used their first timeout of the game shortly before making the punt. Kicker Mark Hill kicked the ball out of bounds at the 35-yard line.

The ball was handed off to running back Elden Hernandez but was tackled at the line of scrimmage by defensive lineman Ben Affainie. Another hand-off to Hernandez was stopped by defensive lineman Teddy Reyes with an assist from Affainie. An illegal formation was called against the offense but was declined by the defense which meant that there was no gain and then a loss of downs. Two consecutive false start violations were called against the offense. It was 3rd & 20 when the Cavemen decided to pass the ball which was almost intercepted by defensive back Jeremy Musni. They decided to punt the ball instead of going for their 4th.

The Wolves started on their 29-yard line with a quick hand-off to running back Dennis Graves who gained 8-yards. The ball was caught by wide receiver Walid Mo a few yards away from the first down marker. Quarterback Luke Zetazate passed the ball to wide receiver Ivan Klaric who was running along the sideline and caught the ball at the 20-yard line. A quick hand-off to Graves with about a 2-yard gain was stopped by Hernandez who was also playing as a linebacker. After an incomplete pass, Zetazate made a short pass to Klaric who was able to extend the ball to the end zone before being pushed out of bounds. The referees talked it amongst themselves first and called it as a touchdown. After scoring the extra point, the Wolves were now up by 7 points.

The Cavemen started on their 25-yard line. Hernandez ran the ball and gained 4-yards before being stopped by Affainie. The ball was handed-off to Hernandez but was quickly tackled by linebackers Kim Luy and Hiroyuki Kano before the line of scrimmage. The Cavemen got a first down with a running option to Yeh. The offense gained 2-yards with another run by Yeh before being stopped by defensive lineman Marco Cordova. After an incomplete pass, offensive lineman Marco Bangit was down and was escorted out of the field. A false start was called against the offense on their 3rd down. The 1st quarter ended with an incomplete pass. The ball was handed off to Hernandez again and got the first down before being pushed out of bounds by linebacker Darwin Gonzales. After 2 incomplete passes, wide receiver Nicholas Garcia caught the ball on the first down marker and gained more yards before being pushed out of bounds by Gonzales. They started a fresh set of downs at the 20-yard line with a quick pass to Hernandez for a touchdown. Hernandez made another reception for the 2-point conversion but was not counted because of a holding call on the offense. They repeated their conversion with a 10-yard penalty but the pass was incomplete. The score was now 7-6 still in favor of the Wolves.

The on-side kick was recovered by the Wolves midfield. The ball was quickly pitched to running back Joshua Gayta who was tackled out of bounds by Hernandez short of the first down. The ball was passed to Klaric but there was a pass interference violation against the defense that resulted in a 15-yard penalty and an automatic first down. The first play was an incomplete pass. Jumola ran the ball and gained 7-yards. Another run by Jumola got them another first down and gained a few more yards before being stopped by linebacker Inigo Pulido. Jumola did another run but was stopped by defensive back Pereme Alina. However, Jumola had to go out of the field and Graves assumed the position of running back. There was a short pass to Gayta who was tackled by Hernandez before the line of scrimmage. But an illegal formation was called on the offense that was declined which meant a loss of downs. After an incomplete pass, the referees discussed whether it was a turnover on downs or the 4th down of the offense. It was decided that it was indeed the fourth down. The ball was caught by Klaric at the end zone for a touchdown. With 6:46 in the first half, the Wolves scored their extra point. (14-6).

The Cavemen started on their 19-yard line. The ball was handed off to running back Karel Coldenhoff who gained 3-yards before a tackle by defensive back Alden Garcia. Back to back violations were called against the offense for holding and false start respectively. As they made another play, Gonzales made a tackle at the end zone which resulted in a safety. The score was now 16-6.

The Wolves started with a quick pitch to Graves who gained 7-yards. The ball was handed off to Graves again but was tackled a yard before the line of scrimmage. A holding violation was called against the offense which resulted in a penalty and repeat of down. The ball was pitched to Gayta who was tackled at the line of scrimmage by Alina with an assist by Yeh. The pack lost more yards after Graves caught the ball before the line of scrimmage and was tackled by Pulido. The offense decided to punt. The ball was fumbled and was recovered again by Larry Favorito [Wolves]. The pack had another fresh set of downs on Cavemen territory. After an incomplete pass, a holding violation was called against the offense. The ball was immediately passed to Gayta who gained a few yards short from the first before being stopped by Hernandez. The ball was passed to Mo who made it to the end zone but the touchdown was not counted because of a holding call on the offense. Klaric caught the ball from a quick pass and was got the first down before running out of bounds but another holding violation was called against the offense. The ball was passed to Gayta again who gained about 3 yards before being stopped by Cavemen defense. After an incomplete pass, the pack decided to do a field goal but was not able to score. The score remains at 16-6.

The Cavemen started with a run by Hernandez who was tackled by Affainie and Gonzales. Hernandez was down on the field after the play. There was 4:30 left in the first half. The offense gained about 5-yards with a reception from Alina who was stopped by defensive back Jeremy Musni. The Cavemen called a timeout before starting their 3rd down. They got a first down with a quick pass and an outside run by Coldenhoff. A pass was intended for Alina but was swatted down by Musni. Gonzales made another tackle before the line of scrimmage which lost the offense further yards. The Cavemen called another timeout before their 3rd down. After an incomplete pass, the offense punted the ball.

Zetazate gave a short pass to Klaric who ran all the way to the end zone for a touchdown. A false start violation was called against the offense just before the extra point. This did not stop Hill from scoring. It was now 23-6.

The Cavemen started on their 20. The ball was fumbled and was recovered by Reyes [Wolves].  After a pitch to Jumola with a run in the middle, a holding violation was called against the offense followed by a false start. After an incomplete pass, the ball was passed to Jumola with a gain of 3-yards a stop by Pulido. There was only 0:06 left in the first half after an incomplete pass. Klaric assumed the position of quarterback and made it to the 1st down with a run but there was no time left in the first half. The score was still at 23-6.

The 2nd half started with the Cavemen on their 26-yard line. After an incomplete pass. a holding violation was called against. However, an encroachment violation was called against the defense afterward. Alina with the reception but was stopped at the line of scrimmage. The ball was pitched to Coldenhoff for a run but there was a holding violation against the offense. The free play did not give the Cavemen more points as quarterback Mike Hoese was tackled before he could pass the ball. Coldenhoff got a first down with an outside run before being stopped. Another run was made but an illegal formation was called against the offense. The next run by Coldenhoff was stopped by Kano which resulted in a loss half a yard. After another incomplete pass, the Cavemen got a first down after a Hoese pitched the ball backward to Alina who passed the ball to Garcia and Musni with the tackle. Coldenhoff again with the run in the middle and a 3-yard gain. A penalty was called against the Wolves after an incomplete pass. Heoese decided to do a QB run and scored a touchdown shortly after with a pass to Garcia. They scored another 2-point conversion with a pass to Alina. The score was now 23-14.

Graves attempted another run but was still stopped by Yeh. Offensive lineman Gershon Luna was escorted out after being down on the field. Another run by Graves but was short on the first. After an incomplete pass, the ball was pitched again to Graves but no more yards were gained. The ball was turned over to the Cavemen.

Coldenhoff was tackled out of bounds after an outside run after getting the first down. They decided to do another run but this time in the middle but was stopped by Reyes. In another attempt to gain more yards, Coldenhoff ran the ball but was tackled by defensive back Khalil Tan before the line of scrimmage. The ball was passed to Alina who gained about 2 yards before being tackled by defensive lineman Kerwin Valle. They decided to go for their last down but was an incomplete pass. The ball was turned over to the Wolves.

The ball was passed to Gayta who was immediately tackled before the line of scrimmage by linebacker Mat Mallorca with an assist by defensive lineman Earl Tubig. The next pass was incomplete. The defense was penalized for encroachment. After another incomplete pass, Klaric caught the ball at the first down marker with a free play. After back to back passes to Gayta, the pack scored another touchdown. They went for a 2-point conversion with a QB sneak by Klarick and scored the extra point. The score was now 31-14.

The Cavemen started on their 40-yard line. Running back RJ Laurel with an outside run but did not gain yards. In another attempt to run, Laurel was immediately tackled by Tan and Luy which resulted in a loss of yards. After an incomplete pass, the offense decided to punt.

The Wolves started on their 30-yard line. Graves ran the ball and gained a yard before he was tackled by defensive lineman Alden Monzon. Graves again but this time with an outside run and a stop by linebacker Michael Asuncion. Jumola with an outside run and was short on the first down. The Cavemen called a timeout after. Jumola was able to get a first down and more yards before being stopped by the defense. There was only a 1:00 left in the game when the referees called a false start on the offense which made the previous play invalid. Jumola again with an outside run and a first down before being tackled by Yeh with an assist from defensive end Jan Eric Tuason. The Wolves decided to kneel which ended the game at 31-14.
